Field-of-Use

Field-of-Use defines the specific application area, market segment, product category, or technical domain in which a company is permitted to use a licensed technology. It limits the license to an agreed scope so the same intellectual property can be licensed differently for other uses or industries. Field-of-Use language is central to aligning commercialization rights with sponsor intent while preserving flexibility for WHOI and its inventors to pursue additional applications with other partners.
